The Army Commander assigns all military units to arrange more events to promote nationalism and the monarchy, while the permanent secretary for defence believes a social sanction will be released to cope with illegal usage of the Thai flag. Deputy Army Spokesman Sirichan Ngathong announced that Army Commander, General Anupong Paochinda, has urged leaders of military units around the country to organize activities to express respect for the monarchy and the nation. She insists the command is not related to the current situation and that no one is trying to involve the monarchy in politics. Meanwhile, regarding the case of the Thai flag with the word "THAKSIN" printed on it, Permanent Secretary for Defence, Winai Phattiyakul believes the public will take measures to tackle the incident. He also commented on the Constitution rewrite, saying the government should find a solution that brings peace to the country. He doesn't expect that any conflict over the issue will become a national security problem. Consequently, the Army will not interfere with the situation, since they are busy with national defence and the insurgency in restive South. Regarding speculation that the controversy between those who support the charter amendment and those who oppose it could lead to an overthrow by the Army, the permanent secretary for defence insisted that soldiers will perform their duties as usual, and that everyone wants to see harmony in the nation. |
