Most people around the world, are more aware of how to protect themselves from contracting the type-A (H1N1) flu. Today, TAN Network will take a closer look at ways to strengthen your body's immune system through the use of Thai herbs- which are believed to be the best way to protect yourself against infections The rainy season is considered the time when the flu is most easily spread. In addition to the flu vaccination, there are various Thai herbs that can help prevent the contraction of the flu. It is also a factor in lowering the risk factors that increase the likelihood of catching the type-A (H1N1) influenza. Andrographis paniculata, or Fah-Talai-Jone is one of the 10 thousand Thai herbs that preserves the body's balance and significantly builds immunity in the body. This herb is reportedly the best at preventing the A/H1N1 flu. In pharmacology, the andrographolide component found in the medical plant is active and disinfects bacteria, alleviates fever, fights against inflammation, cures diarrhea, sore throat, and prevents infection in the urinary tract. The substance is mostly found in the leaves of the Andrographis Paniculata, which modern medics have developed and extracted from the andrographolide component, making it into a form of a capsule, as it is more convenient to use. Nevertheless, medics have recommended that patients use the Andrographis paniculata about three to four times a day when one has fever or a runny nose, but it should not be taken for more than seven days, as it can cause side-effects that causes muscles to weaken. Associate Professor Promjit Saralamp of the Pharmaceutical Botany department of Mahidol University, stated that Andrographis paniculata is one of the Thai herbs that is used to cure fever symptoms. She said during the rainy season, people should take care of their health by consuming food that is composed of ginger, pepper, tael, and cabbage; which is thought to be the easiest herbal plants found in a typical household. She added that we should choose to consume natural vitamin C found in all vegetables, in order to nurture the four essences; earth, water, wind, and fire to create a balanced body. Other herbs such as the Smor-Thai, Smor-Piphek and the Indian gooseberry can also preserve the four elements of the human body when transformed into a formula drink called Tree-phla. Meanwhile, most people believe that consuming the Thai herbs can shield them away from diseases; therefore, herbs are normally being added to their daily intakes anyways. Lemon grass, basil, ginger, garlic and onion are the herbs which are normally used in the spicy lemongrass shrimp soup, spicy mixed vegetable soup, basil fried, sour soup made of tamarind paste, food wrapped in leaves, and many other menus. The Indian gooseberry, guava, carrot, horseradish tree, small bitter gourd, many green leaf vegetables, and drinking herbal drinks; whether it be the ginger juice or lime juices that gives high level of vitamin C, have been approved by the Thai traditional medics that can protect one from being in the risk group in contracting the seasonal flu and the type-A H1N1 flu. |
