The Thai-Chinese Tourism Association chairman revealed that many Chinese tourists will visit Thailand to celebrate the Chinese New Year. He predicted that the number of Chinese tourists in Thailand will reach 1.2 million by the end of this year, provided the Thai political situation remains stable. Thai-Chinese Tourism Association chairman, Vichit Prakorbkosol said that Chinese tourists are heading to Thailand during this Chinese New Year season. Almost 120 charter flights are coming to Thailand, or 50 percent more flights compared with the corresponding period last year. He says there is a high demand by Chinese people wishing to travel to Thailand, and believes Chinese tourists will flock to Thailand during the Songkran Thai New Year festival as well. He revealed that travel agents in China plan to book more than 100 charter flights to Thailand in anticipation of the Thai New Year festival. He attributed the influx of Chinese tourists to the coinciding of Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year Day. This year both holidays fall on the same date --February 14th. He revealed charter flights to Thailand are fully booked and says that more Chinese people still want to visit Thailand. He has been talking with the travel agents in China to find ways to meet the high demand of Chinese tourists wishing to vacation in Thailand. He believes that Chinese tourists who will not be able to travel to Thailand during the Chinese New Year season will try to visit Thailand again during the Songkran festival. Vichit said during that during the ten days of the Chinese New Year period, there will be about 60,000 Chinese tourists in Thailand and the average length of their stay will be in the range of five to six days. Phuket is expected to be the most popular destination. The number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand during this period is expected to be double that of the corresponding period last year. Three-to-four-star hotels are fully booked. Vichit said if Thai politics are stabilized, he believes the number of Chinese tourists in Thailand will reach 1.2 million by the end of this year. |
