Govt Assures Transparent Police Reshuffle
A deputy prime minister has affirmed that the annual police reshuffle was conducted with full transparency regardless of the appointees' political stance. Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security affairs and head of the Police Commission Suthep Thaugsuban insisted that the annual police reshuffle was conducted with careful consideration and full transparency.
Military Reshuffle Gets Royal Approval
His Majesty the King has endorsed the reshuffle of 550 military officers, including the promotion of General Prayuth Chan-ocha as the new army chief. His Majesty the King has endorsed this year's military reshuffle list, appointing Deputy Supreme Commander General Kittipong Keskowit as the new permanent secretary of the Defense Ministry and deputy army chief General Prayuth Chanocha as the new army chief.
Police Take Closer Watch on Rogue Students
The city police are set to implement measures against the possession of weapons by students after a boy was shot and killed in Wednesday's brawl of vocational students in Bangkapi district. Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner Police Major General Sumeth Reungsawat said he urged executives of schools who participated in the meeting on student brawls to provide officers with information of other students prone to such violent acts and possess weapons.

New Politics Party Claims Yesterday's Joint Press Conference with Pheu Thai Unauthorized
The acting secretary-general of the New Politics Party says the party did not authorize yesterday's press conference jointly conducted by General Kittisak Rathprasert and members of the Pheu Thai Party. Acting Secretary-General of the New Politics Party, Suriyasai Katasila, clarified through a television talk show about the joint press conference conducted by General Kittisak Rathprasert, a member of the party's executive committee, and President of the Pheu Thai Party's Bangkok MPs, Wicharn Meenachainant, on electoral fraud allegedly committed during the Bangkok Metropolitan Council Election last Sunday.
Bhum Jai Thai Boss Warned of Assassination
A People's Alliance for Democracy leader claims Bhum Jai Thai Party de facto leader Newin Chidchob may be targeted for assassination due to squabbles with ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra. He assumes that recent violent incidents may have been coordinated. People's Alliance for Democracy, or PAD, chief Sondhi Limthongkul observed that the grenade attack at the NBT TV station as well as sabotage warned by the Pheu Thai Party may all be within the knowledge of the nation's security officials and politicians.
Govt Defends Bout Extradition
The deputy prime minister insists the extradition of Russian arms smuggling suspect Viktor Bout complies with the law, so Thailand should still enjoy good relations with both the United States and Russia. Deputy Prime Minister in charge of national security Suthep Thaugsuban said action against alleged Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout is in compliance with the law and the court's ruling.

2 Injured in Gas Tanker Crash
Last night, an accident occurred on Bang Na – Trad Road when a gas tanker crashed into an 18-wheeler truck. Two people were injured in the crash. Firefighters were able to contain the flames before it engulfed the tanker. Following the collision on Bang Na – Trad Road, where a PTT LPG gas tanker collided with an 18-wheeler truck, both vehicles were set ablaze.
Provincial Flood Crisis Remains Worrisome
Many northern and northeastern provinces continue to be affected by torrential rain and flooding which have adversely affected the region's agriculture. Torrential rain continues to pour down on Amnat Charoen province. Farmers are experiencing the worst flood crisis to hit the province in the last ten years. More than 50,000 rai of rice fields in Leu-amnat district are at risk of dying if flooding continues for the next four days.

PM Bestows State Enterprises Awards
The prime minister has bestowed state enterprise awards for 2010, with PPT crowned as the best state enterprise of the year. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has presented a number of trophies to state enterprises, as part of the State Enterprise Awards 2010.
Govt Plans No Monetary Control
The prime minister has ordered the Bank of Thailand to address speculation on the baht with the Finance Ministry assuring that despite the appreciation of the currency, no monetary control will be imposed. Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij, speaking after a special economic Cabinet meeting on the baht appreciation with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, stated that the strengthening of the baht is in line with regional currencies.
Baht Appreciation Main Concern to Private Sector
Members of the private sector have expressed readiness to accept the Administrative Court's ruling on Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate projects regardless of the outcome, saying they are more concerned about the effects of the strengthening baht. Adivsory Chairman for the Federation of Thai Industries, or FTI, Santi Wilatsakdanon explained today that the appreciation of the Thai currency is due to a variety of factors.

Bad News VS Rumor
During the past week, many politicians and astrologers predicted that the country is heading towards a new round of political violence. However what has caused the biggest alarm to the public was the claim made by Prompong Nopparit, the spokesperson of the Opposition's Pheu Thai Party, that an attack on the capital's subway system is being planned. The claim was made without any supporting evidence given let alone any solid proof that such a horrific incident could possibly happen. Prompong only gave a clue that an unknown group, hoping to seize the power from the government, could be behind the plot. However, the authorities has reassured the public that security presence at the subway system is enough to prevent such an attack from happening.
Map Ta Put: Theory and Practice
The Cabinet has seen fit to approve the National Environment Commission's list of 11 harmful industries list created on suggestions by a four-party panel in response to the pollution problems surrounding the Map Ta Put Industrial Estate. Residents of the area surrounding the industrial commune successfully secured a court injunction which halted operations of 76 projects located in the Map Ta Put Industrial Estate after complaining about serious environmental and health impacts. The harmful industry list was created to delineated which projects would be allowed to go back online.

Local Administrative Organizations serve as the commanding offices of the nation's provincial administrations, Tambon administrations and a variety of municipal offices with examples such as the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The vast network of administrations, have for a long time, proved extremely difficult to oversee and with many being located in remote, detached, areas, the problem of corruption has become rampant.
