This week we'll take a look at four movies set to be released in the kingdom over the coming weeks: The Brothers Bloom, 2012, Astro Boy, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
The Brothers Bloom
For as long as they can remember, the Brothers Bloom have had only each other to depend on.
From their childhood – living in a long series of gloomy foster homes - to their high-flying lives as international con artists, Stephen (Mark Ruffalo) and Bloom (Adrian Brody) have shared everything.
Stephen brilliantly concocts intricate stories that the brothers live out, but he's still searching for the perfect con, the one where “everyone gets what they want”. Meanwhile, Bloom yearns for “an unwritten life”, a real adventure, not one dreamed up by his old brother.
Eager to retire, Bloom agrees to take part in one last grand scam. He insinuates himself into the life of Penelope (Rachel Weisz), a bored, single New Jersey heiress. When a genuine romance begins to blossom, he is reluctant to exploit her naiveté, but Penelope has already taken the bait: she impulsively joins Bloom, Stephen and their 'associate', a sexy Japanese explosives expert named Bang Bang, on an ocean liner to Greece.
Penelope is convinced she's happened upon the adventure of a lifetime and offers to bankroll a million dollar deal. As the quartet makes their way from Athens to Prague to Mexico to St. Petersburg, Penelope quickly becomes addicted to the illicit thrills. But as Stephen's elaborate web of deceit pulls tighter, Bloom begins to wonder if his brother has devised the most dangerous con of his life. - Opens November 5 (APEX Siam Square and SF World Cinema only).
2012
Never before has a date in history apparently been so significant to so many cultures, religions, scientists, and governments.
The movie 2012, directed by Roland Emmerich, is an epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.
The story focuses on Jackson Curtis (John Cusack), a divorced father who occasionally works as a limousine driver and writer, while his ex-wife (Amanda Peet) and children live together with her new boyfriend.
In Guatemala, there is word that hundreds of people have committed suicide believing the 2012 hypothesis is true and in reaction to this, the Institute for Human Continuity (IHC) is formed, a secret organization that realizes the world is going to end and starts the construction of massive spaceships beneath the Himalayas in preparation for the end of the world. Governments task the IHC with the job of saving the human race when doomsday occurs.
As they discover that the worldwide cataclysm will take place earlier than they had previously anticipated, they have to race to the spaceships in order to save the human race before all is lost.
Los Angeles is completely destroyed when the tectonic plates collapse and fall into the rising seas.
Volcanoes erupt, massive earthquakes hit South America and the Vatican crumbles. As floods reach mammoth proportions, the US government declares that it's 'officially' the end of the world.
A group of survivors, including Jackson Curtis and his family, battle their way to China so they can board the great spaceship arks and save themselves from the gigantic tidal waves sweeping across the globe.
The film explores the idea of a global doomsday event, coinciding with the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar's current cycle, on or around December 21, 2012 (coinciding with the northern hemisphere's winter solstice). - Opens November 12.
Astro Boy
A thrilling tale of a true hero, Astro Boy is an all-new, feature film filled with action, adventure, humor and heart.
Set in the futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist named Tenma (Nicolas Cage).
Powered by positive 'blue' energy, Astro Boy (Freddie Highmore) is endowed with super strength x-ray vision, unbelievable speed, as well as the ability to fly.
Embarking on a journey in search of acceptance, Astro Boy encounters many colorful characters along the way.
Through his adventures, Astro Boy learns the ups and downs of being human, and gains the required strength to embrace his destiny.
On learning his friends and family are in danger, Astro Boy marshals his awesome super powers and returns to Metro City in a valiant effort to save everything he cares about and understand what it takes to be a hero.
This movie will be brought to life on the big screen in breathtaking CGI animation. - Opens November 19.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon
For Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), there's one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). But being in love with a vampire is even more dangerous than Bella could ever have imagined.
Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of one evil vampire, but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realize their troubles may only just be beginning. - Opens November 19.
