Phichit Province to Curb Rice Pest Outbreak

The Phichit provincial authority is pouring funds into a campaign to control the outbreak of brown plant hoppers that have ravaged about 500,000 rai of rice plantations.

Phichit Governor, Suwit Wacharotayangkur, along with the acting director of the Phitsanulok rice research center, Suradej Palawit, launched a campaign to control the outbreak of brown plant hoppers at Baan Klong Khu in Tambon Ta Luang in Muang district.

During the campaign, affected rice farmers attended trainings and demonstrations on the correct use of pesticides.

The provincial governor also allocated 15 million baht in disaster relief to fund twelve districts' fight against the plague.

The pests reportedly destroyed more than 490,000 rai of in-season paddy fields. The province has a total of 1.6 million rai of land that is suitable for growing rice.
