| Health Ministry Continues Flu Vaccination |
| UPDATE : 8 February 2010 |
The public health minister has ordered the A(H1N1) flu vaccination program to be resumed due to a remarkable rise in number of patients who have contracted the flu.
Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit has confirmed the resumption of the controversial A(H1N1) flu vaccination program among high-risk groups.
During the past week alone, there has reportedly been a 25-percent rise in the number of A(H1N1) flu patients.
The health minister said the resumption of the vaccination program is necessary to counter the spread of the virus and the fatality rate.
The controversy surrounding the miscarriage that was suspected to have been caused by the flu vaccination in Chumphon and Phatthalung provinces is still being investigated.
The results of the probe will be reviewed by medical experts for detailed analysis.
Jurin also commented on the incident where a Nakhon Ratchasima College medical student was denied a medical license exam at Thailand's Nursing Council.
He said the education standard at the college is currently not being recognized by the Education Ministry, which is currently looking into the case.
The Nakhon Ratchasima College is working with the Prabaromrajchanok Institute for Health Workforce and Development to find a new institution certified by the health ministry to take its students.
The college hopes to transfer the students' existing academic credits to an alternative institute which will allow them to resume their studies.
Meanwhile, graduates will need to retake remaining compulsory courses in order to be able to take the medical license exam at the Thailand's Nursing Council.
