THAI Plans 50% Green House Emission Cut
UPDATE : 10 February 2010
Thai Airways International is projecting that it will reduce its greenhouse gas emission by 50 percent by 2050.

Meanwhile, the case of a Boeing 747 that caught fire is still being investigated.

Thai Airways President Piyasawat Ammaranan said by working together with the Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, program, they are aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emission on all flights.

Under a new European regulation, all airlines flying in and out of Europe must reduce their carbon gas emission by three percent by the end of 2012.

THAI Airways must find methods to reduce its carbon gas emission and has set a target to reduce greenhouse gas emission by 50 percent by 2050.

Such important methods and ideas include rectifying flights and conserving energy and fuel. By March this year, all flight menus will show the calculated reduction of carbon gas emission.

Today, the THAI Airways president and Chairman Amphon Kitiamphon invited the public to look at the flight simulator room where a test flight was demonstrated.

All pilots must pass the simulation first, prior to actually flying.

Meanwhile, Piyasawat said a committee has been established to investigate the engine fire on a THAI's Boeing 747 en route from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on February 3.

Wuttichai Singhmanee is serving as head of the committee and also on the panel are representatives from the National Transport Safety Board, Boeing Industries, THAI Airways GE Engines. The cause of the problem is expected to be determined soon.
