Emergency Medical Center Set for Rally
UPDATE : 11 March 2010
The Public Health Ministry is setting up an emergency medical center to prepare for potential violence during the Red-Shirt rally.

Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit revealed after a meeting with public health agencies that officials have agreed to set up a National Emergency Medical Center in preparation for the Red-Shirt rally.

The center will be established in accordance to the Security Act, the Disaster Prevention Act, and the National Emergency Medical Act.

The purpose of the center is to monitor the situation and respond to medical emergencies during the protests.

The center can be reached for service through the new hotline 1169. All hospitals under the Ministry, as well as universities, have coordinated to brace for potential violence.

Jurin insists the center is not being set up as part of the government's plan to use violence to crackdown on protestors.

Security officers have been ordered to strictly follow internationally standardized peaceful procedures.
