| Medical Personnel Nationwide against Draft Malpractice Bill |
| UPDATE : 29 July 2010 |
Medical personnel across the country are staging rallies to oppose the drafting of the medical malpractice victim protection bill, stating that it is an unjust law which could cause conflicts between doctors and patients.
Over 100 medical personnel from Lampang Hospital dressed in black and carried signs to oppose the drafting of the medical malpractice victim protection bill, scheduled to be deliberated by Parliament during its upcoming session.
Doctors nationwide stated that the bill is unjust and are urging the government and the House of Representatives to withdraw the law so that it can be reviewed to ensure fairness for both parties.
If the bill is drafted, doctors say conflicts will arise between them and patients as more malpractice lawsuits will occur. Also, unnecessary budget and spending will be required to support this bill.
Similar demonstrations were also held at Puttachinarat Hospital in Phitsanulok province where doctors came to oppose the bill as they fear it will affect the quality of the health service.
In Nong Kai province, members of the Medical Council were also dressed in black to oppose the bill, citing that it is an unfair policy as it will put more pressure on doctors.
They also said that the panel responsible for the bill does not have sufficient medical experience and they are calling on the government and the Lower House to withdraw the bill for further review and analysis.
Meanwhile at Pattani Hospital, medical personnel and public health officials came out to oppose the bill, with over 800 medical staff signing a petition against it.
