The Assets Examination Committee (AEC) yesterday filed a police complaint against Pinthongta Shinawatra, daughter of deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra for refusing to provide the committee with testimony over the Shin Corp. share sale, which involves tax evasion attempts of Thaksin and his family. AEC representatives, Monthien Charaenpol and Pattarawit Obsuwan yesterday filed the complaint with the superintendent of the Bang Sue police station, Lt-Colonel Sayan Petyuenyong. According to Monthien, Pinthongta had postponed the testimonial session three times along with refusing to give testimony on October 9 when she decided to appear before the committee. Monthien claimed that Pinthongta’s action had violated Article 25 of the National Counter Corruption law, which punishes violators up to six months of imprisonment and a fine of 10,000 baht. In response to the complaint, Lt-Colonel Sayan iterated that the police station would summon Pinthongta for a hearing of her charges, adding that if she refuses to show up again, an arrest warrant will be issued in her name. Meanwhile, the legal adviser to the Shinawatra family, Noppadol Pattama argued that Pinthongta was entitled to her constitutional right for not giving her testimony, which she claimed that any given words might affect her parents’ reputation. On a separate development, rumors linked to the Shinawatra family still continue to spread as Chat Thai leader Barnharn Silapa-archa had recently been alleged for visiting deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in London last month. Barnharn argued that he and his family visited London on September 26 for a vacation, which had been frequently practiced over the past 15 years since his son; Varavuth began his studies in the United Kingdom. Barnharn denied having any intension to visit the deposed Prime Minister, adding that he would never upset a senior individual who he has known for more than 30 years, whose identity had not been revealed. He also dismissed rumors that he had flown to Switzerland to approach the current director-general of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad), Supachachai Panitchapakdi in Geneva to join his Chart Thai party. |
