Energy Policy and Planning Office director Viraphol Jirapraditkul states that the use of alternative energy has rapidly escalated, particularly the consumption of gasohol, bio-diesel and NGV. With the current consumption rate, he says the country can possibly save an average of 3.83 million liters of benzene and diesel per day, or almost 42 billion baht a year. During April this year, the consumption of alternative energy doubled that of April last year. The consumption of gasohol has increased by 103.6 per cent, from 4 million liters a day to 8 million liters a day. Bio-diesel B-5 consumption increased by 686 per cent, from 1.07 million liters a day to 8.43 million liters a day. Meanwhile, the installation of NGV systems in vehicles has been received with great interest with more than 72,000 vehicles being installed with NGV engines last year. There are currently 187 NGV gas stations, and the number is expected to increase to 320 stations this year. |
