Foreign News Agency Concludes Thaksin Is Source of Conflict in Thailand
UPDATE : 20 June 2008

Foreign news agencies have been reporting on the increased political tension in Thailand with the People’s Alliance for Democracy’s relocation of its rally to Government House.

Financial Times reported that after being in office for only four months, the People Power-led government that is filled with those loyal to ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra is meeting with its biggest obstacles from the opposition Democrat’s launch of a censure debate against the premier and seven Cabinet ministers.

Despite news about a military coup disappearing, the Financial Times predicts difficult times ahead for the Thai government in the coming months which could possibly lead to its collapse.

The paper concluded that the conflict is mainly between the group which wants Thaksin’s political influence to cease and those who support him and want him to regain his seized assets. It quoted correspondent Chris Baker as saying everything lies with Thaksin and his money.

AFP reports that the People’s Alliance for Democracy rally, despite its small size, is influential beyond the number of protestors as it understands the sentiment of Bangkok residents who distrust Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej and his admission of being a proxy of Thaksin.
