Nakhon Ratchasima MPs from the People Power Party have called for a seat quota in Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat's Cabinet while another faction announces it will monitor the government. People Power MP and core leader of the Nakhon Ratchasima faction, Somchai Paidprasert admits that the group is disappointed for not being included in the Cabinet line-up but that it respects the party executives' decision. However, the faction is worried they will be at a disadvantage now that two MPs from the rival party in their constituencies have been appointed for ministerial posts. They have called on the party executives to offer an opportunity for all factions, while assuring that the group will not leave the PPP and is ready to form a new party if the court orders the PPP dissovled. Regarding the appointment of General Chavalit Yongjaiyudh as deputy prime minister, Somchai says they respect General Chavalit as he is an important figure in politics. Meanwhile, yesterday, the PPP's Baan Rim Nam faction held a meeting with the faction under banned Thai Rak Thai executive Sora-at Klinpratum. After the meeting, People Power MP, Boonlue Prasertsopha said they discussed their work plan but did not comment on the Cabinet line-up. He said the group will not stage any moves against the government as the power is in the premier's hands. However, they vow to monitor the government's policies and resolutions to all problems in the country. |
