People's Alliance for Democracy leader Somkiart Pongpaiboon is confident that this week marks the beginning of the end of both the Shinawatra and Wongsawat families. He explained that a total of five serious charges will be filed against the two families this week, including attempted bribery. Somkiart Pongpaiboon, a core PAD leader, took the PAD stage last night and announced that this week marks the end of both the Shinawatra and Wongsawat families. Somkiart told the protesters that one of the five charges will be made against a close associate of PM Somchai Wongsawat with regards to an attempted bribery charge in the Thai Rak Thai Party dissolution case. Veera Somkwamkid, secretary-general of the People's Network against Corruption, will follow up on another charge of bribery of five judges. He’ll also file an additional bribery charge against PM Somchai for his involvement in attempting to lobby a judge in his brother-in-law's asset concealment case in 2001. The Constitution Court acquitted Thaksin by a narrow margin and found him not guilty of concealing his assets. In addition, PM Somchai is in the hot seat for allegedly filing a false asset report, concealing his share ownership in CS Loxinfo, which has a concession with CAT. His daughter, Chinnicha Wongsawat, has also been accused of concealing her debts when she failed to declare a loan of 100 million baht to the National Counter Corruption Commission. Chinnicha’s ownership of shares in M Link, a company that operates a state concession, could also lead to her disqualification. If Somchai is found guilty of violating the Constitution by holding shares in CS Loxinfo, he will be disqualified from his premiership. Somkiart is confident Somchai will be found guilty in the attempted bribery case in which Ura Wang-omklang, a judge, has testified that there was an attempt to lobby him to vote in favor of former PM Thaksin. It was alleged that in return for his cooperation, Ura was guaranteed his son’s success in his diplomatic career. |
