More than ten commercial airlines have begun operating flights at Uatapao Airport since yesterday, after the Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang Airports were shut down. Flights from Syberian and Tranfino Air from Russia landed at the airport this morning, as did some flights from domestic routes.

Head of the security team at Utapao Airport, Captain Somnuk Kaewmarerng affirmed that all facilities are being provided at the airport and officials are on 24-hour standby.

In the meantime, Thai Airways is preparing to help 233 Muslims who were stranded at Had Yai International Airport in Songkla province and had to stay at a local hotel after the airport was closed.

The tour operator leading the Muslim group to participate in the Haj pilgrimage said Thai Airways flight TG 8534 will escort the pilgrims to Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia.
