Bt2,000 Stimulus Money Extended to the Unemployed
UPDATE : 20 February 2009

The government extended the registrars to include over 200,000 unemployed to be qualified for the 2,000 baht stimulus money if they register for it before March 1st.

Labor Minister Paitoon Kaewthong stated that employees, who were either fired or quit but are still covered under the Social Insurance Fund within 8 months, are eligible to receive 2,000 baht stimulus money from the government. It is the responsibility of the Social Security Office or SSO to equally take care of employees with social insurance.

There would be a screening process to determine whether the newly hired employee would be considered as self-insured employee under Act 33, in order to prevent any redundancy. The SSO would submit the list by March 11, so it could release the cheques out to the eligible around March 26 to April 8. It is expected to be sent out to around 7.5 to 8 million people in the first lot.

There are 4 groups of people who would be qualified for this cheque, including self-insured employees under Act 33, self-insured employees under Act 39 that are no longer working but still put money into the fund in the past 12 months and continue to do so, self-insured employees under Act 40 with independent jobs like street cleaners or taxi drivers, self-insured employees under Act 38 that quit or were fired but still eligible for assistance within the 4 special cases such as being sick, disabled, pregnant, or have children to support.
