The market for instant noodles is on a decline, while “Mama“ prepares to spend over 120 million baht on marketing.
Thai President Foods President, Pipat Paniangwet , the manufacturer of “Mama“ instant noodles, has revealed that the instant noodle market, which is valued at over 10 billion baht, dropped by 6% in February, compared to February last year, due to a decrease in consumption.
However, the 2,000 baht cheque given out by the government to people earning less than 15,000 baht per month is expected to boost instant noodle sales in April, and the overall instant noodle market is expected to fall by just 2%.
Pipat said the company is currently producing 5-baht mama packs to help people through the economic crisis. They also invested in more than 120 million baht for marketing - 10 million baht will be spent per month in order to sell 20,000 to 30,000 boxes or 180 packs per month.
Although there is fierce competition between instant noodle companies, with competing firms lowering their prices to as low as 3.8 baht, Mama predicts it will grow by 9% this year.
