Govt Insurance Office Campaigns for Road Safety Precautions
UPDATE : 30 December 2009

The deputy finance minister and the Office of Insurance Commission have held an event to remind drivers to check the expiration date of their car insurance before traveling.

Meanwhile, the toll fee for expressways in eastern Bangkok will be exempted during the New Year holidays.

Deputy Finance Minister Pruttichai Damrongrat and officials from the Office of Insurance Commission, or OIC, held a public relations campaign near Asoke expressway to remind drivers to check the expiration date of their car insurance and renew it if necessary.

They also advised drivers on steps to follow in the event of an accident.

The drivers are urged to rush anyone injured to the nearest hospital and report the accident to police.

They are also asked to take note of the vehicles involved in the accident to find out which companies they are insured with in order to provide necessary information for the hospital and the insurance companies.

Pruttichai said the OIC expressed readiness to provide assistance to those needing to make insurance claims to help them get benefits and compensation from the insurance companies through the hotline number 1186.

The OIC, in cooperation with the General Insurance Association, has decreased premiums for fire insurance policies by five to 20 percent for hospitals, banks, hotels, department stores and shops.

The decrease in premiums will take effect on January1, 2010 and is aimed to encourage proprietors of these businesses to safeguard their businesses against risks by purchasing insurance packages.

In a related development, the Transport Ministry has announced toll exemption for Bang Phli-Suksawat expressway and Bang Na-Chonburi expressway and its linkage connecting the south end of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The campaign is effective from December 30 to January 3 to help ease traffic congestion.
