The Satellite Television Association Thailand hosts an exposition this weekend at Siam Paragon shopping mall to promote satellite and cable television, along with informing the public, of the alternatives to free TV available to them. Satellite and cable television is one of the fastest growing trends in the mass media industry. It is so fast in fact, that the number of households viewing satellite and cable TV has increased from 5 to over 30 percent in the last 3 years and is expected to rise over 90 percent within three years. The event consists of exhibitions from various channels which are members of STAT. To date, over 45 channels are members of STAT ranging from news channels, entertainment channels, movie channels to shopping channels etc. Many entertainment are provided within the expo to attract the general public, ranging from stage performances by well known celebrities to Japanese cartoon mascots. The aim of the event is to promote satellite and cable television by educating people of the huge range of options available to them from members of the STAT. In order to further promote satellite and cable TV, many promotions and discounts are offered within the expo. One of the highlight promotions offered is for anyone to trade in their old TV antenna or even a photo of an old one at home for a 50 percent discount for a brand new satellite dish. The event has also received great support from the government sector as Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva officially opened the expo himself. It is an event not to be missed because not only is it informative but it is also a great opportunity for those who haven't already own a satellite dish, to finally get one. And for those of you TAN viewers, don't miss visiting our booth at the expo.
