The Foreign Affairs Minister chaired the opening of a photography exhibition, which was held to promote mutual understanding of diverse cultures and religion between the people of Asia and European member countries, and he awarded prizes to the winners of ASEM Interfaith Cultural Photography Contest.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Kasit Piromya attended a photography exhibition held by the Asia-Europe Meeting Interfaith Dialogue, or ASEM-IFD, to hand out awards to the winners of the ASEM Interfaith Photography Contest at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center on Patumwan Road.

The Foreign Affairs Minister stated that the Interfaith Dialogue is a venue for people from different cultural backgrounds, affiliations, and religions to get together and foster cross-cultural exchange, so that a basic understanding can be achieved between diverse groups of people.

In an effort to promote mutual understanding among the different groups of people from the Asian and European member countries, the ASEM Interfaith Dialogue hosted a photography competition as one of its vehicles to encourage photographers; both professional and amateur, to submit photographs of what they think would best express their ideas of cultural identity and cooperation.

One of the contest's winners, 15-year old Yana Asenova from Bulgaria, tolds TAN Network how she feels about receiving this prize.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry had given the 43 ASEM member countries the opportunity to nominate the names of 10 photographic contestants between November 2009 and January 2010.

The winning photographs were selected by a committee consisting of veteran officials from governmental units, professional photographers, and media representatives.

An exhibition displaying the photography will be up on the Library floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Center until February 14, from 10am to 9pm every Tuesday through Sunday.
