AIS is prepared to engage in a lengthy legal battle with the government in the event that the government seeks to amend concessions granted to the company. The Supreme Court's previously ruled that amendments to the roaming contract and the pre-paid card revenue-sharing contract with AIS were rigged. Advanced Info Service Chief Executive Officer Wichian Mektrakarn revealed that his company's stock prices have been on a steep decline, as investors lost confidence in the company in the wake of the ruling in Thaksin's assets seizure case. Wichian stated that his company had no part in the case and says that the company has conducted business in accordance with the concession. Wichian revealed that if the company is involved in a legal proceeding, it will take at least eight years and he urged investors not to panic. He admitted that AIS is concerned about the government's efforts to follow up on this case, and explained that executives at AIS have discussed a second plan. However, he believes there will be no revocation of the commission or a collapse similar to that of ITV channel, as AIS hasn't committed any violation of the concession rules. He added that the best his company can do is to explain the facts and prepare a second plan to fight a legal battle to the very end. Regarding the high court's ruling that the amendments weren't approved by the Cabinet at the time, AIS's CEO said this doesn't concern his company. He explained that AIS executives have yet to be contacted by either the Finace Ministry or the Information and Communication Technology Ministry to defend themselves. He suggested that the government ask the state enterprises involved in this case to explain themselves, as AIS is not an agency under their supervision. |
